Heerenhuis Chamber Concert - Atlas Quartet
Heerenhuys, Dudok in het Park, Rotterdam
The Atlas Quartet is a string quartet rooted in the Rotterdam Conservatory. The four musicians share a broad curiosity about the string quartet repertoire - from the classical period to contemporary music - and continually seek a balance between fidelity to the score and their own fresh interpretation. They are coached by chamber music instructors including Eva Stegeman, Karin Dolman and Marc Danel, and have previously performed at venues such as the Eduard Flipse Hall in De Doelen, Theater Ludens in Voorburg and De Harmonie in Rotterdam.
Programme:
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791) - String Quartet No. 19 in C major, K465 'Dissonant'
Caroline Shaw (1982-) - Entr'acte
Erwin Schulhoff (1894-1942) - Fünf Stücke für Streichquartett, WV68
The concert opens with Mozart's nineteenth string quartet, the last of the six quartets he dedicated to Joseph Haydn. It is a work in which Mozart reveals a pronounced expressive side of his musical language. This is followed by Entr'acte by American composer Caroline Shaw, who combines elements of classical music with modern harmonies and unconventional playing techniques. The programme concludes with Schulhoff's Fünf Stücke für Streichquartett (1923): five short movements based on different dance styles, each given an idiosyncratic and often humorous twist by Schulhoff.
Ensemble:
Lluc Montmany Sancho - violin
Pep Amengual Moral - violin
Thijs van der Linden - viola
Joan Fiol Dols - cello
The Heerenhuis Chamber Concerts are part of the programming of the Park in Rotterdam.
