Stop Femicide - How Do We Break the Patriarchy?

Theater De Generator presents an interactive performance as part of Orange the World, the international campaign against violence against women. This year, femicide takes centre stage - not just as a social problem, but as something that can actually be stopped. The focus is on the structural responsibility of men and patriarchal systems.

I Fall for the Wrong Men
Lisa Kim An Janssen and Juri Zanger created a performance exploring how myths, cognitive errors and human psychology obstruct the prevention of femicide and patriarchal violence. Wanting to be the kind of man others like makes it paradoxically harder to acknowledge complicity or boundary-crossing behaviour. But in the patriarchal system, no one is innocent - so how do we as a society deal with that guilt? Juri and Lisa want to move from cancel culture to accountability culture by practising how to have the uncomfortable conversations that are needed. With space for questions, however naive they may seem.

To deepen the conversation and offer actionable perspectives, the theatre and programme makers of Stop Femicide weave together insights from experts and support organisations, scientific research and personal biographies into a collaborative working session with the audience. Leiden partner organisations working daily on these themes are actively involved in developing and delivering the programme. The audience is invited to think along, share experiences and critically question existing beliefs.

The evening concludes with concrete steps that can be taken individually and collectively to dismantle patriarchal structures.
