Liederencyclus Project Man

Project Man brings visual art and live music together in a performance exploring masculinity, vulnerability, and the human body.

Visual artist Othilia Verdurmen created five sculptures that explore different facets of male identity - from the adventurous Odysseus to the tender Copper Man. Singer and composer Ilse van de Kasteelen translated each sculpture into a musical portrait. The performance features an ensemble including cellist Viola de Hoog and flautist Janine Abbas.

At 15:00, Othilia Verdurmen gives an introduction with illustrations and photographs about the creative process behind the project. Her artist's journal Othi's Ark is available for purchase at the concert.

Verdurmen became known earlier for the multimedia installation The Firebird, presented at the Groninger Museum and the Rijksmuseum Twenthe, and later for Penelope and Odysseus at the MuseumFabriek in Enscheda. For Project Man, she experimented with new materials and created sculptures that are simultaneously androgynous, mythical, human, and animal.
