Pianissimo

Peter Prommel (percussion, vibraphone) and Thomas Myrmel (composition, technique) create a concert around silence, stillness, meditation and slowly shifting sound. Not music that constantly strives toward something, but a musical space where small changes have time to be heard.

At the heart lies a mix of Terry Riley's In C and the Indian Raga Bhairav - two musical worlds that each invite attentive, patient and almost ritualistic listening. The music moves in waves: motifs return, sounds shift slowly, rhythms change barely or very gradually. This very scarcity of musical information creates space for the smallest details - a different resonance, a shift in colour, a new relationship between silence and sound. Alongside Riley and Raga Bhairav (alap), works by Karlheinz Stockhausen, Kate Moore and Thomas Myrmel are also heard.

Before the concert, Peter Prommel gives a short introduction to mindful listening: how attention works, why we are so easily distracted and how you can practise noticing what sounds - without immediately judging whether something is "happening".
