Onni Asian Moms Meetups
Studio de Bakkerij, Rotterdam · je betaalt wat je wilt
This meetup by Onni Asian Moms is for anyone who identifies as an Asian parent - whether you recently moved to the Netherlands or grew up here as a second or third generation. The gathering takes place on Wednesday, 14 October from 10:00 to 12:00 at Studio de Bakkerij, Bergweg 283, 3037 EM Rotterdam. Coffee and tea are included. Register via Studio de Bakkerij; you pay what you wish.
The theme is passing heritage languages to children. How do you encourage children to actively use your heritage language instead of answering in Dutch? How do you transmit a language if you're not fully confident in it yourself? How do you combine heritage language education with school, activities and family life? These and other questions will be addressed, along with practical strategies for multilingual parenting in the Dutch context.
There is also space for discussion, questions and sharing experiences. Do you have a specific question you'd like addressed during the workshop? Send it in advance to connect@onnirotterdam.nl.
The speaker is Dr. Ute Limacher-Riebold, linguist, multilingualism advisor and international speaker specializing in multilingual families, heritage languages and intercultural communication. More about her work: https://utesinternationallounge.com/
At the same time, Studio de Bakkerij hosts a Koekie Boekie session with story readings in Dutch for the little ones. You can easily combine both activities.
