On Saturday 5 September, Rotterdam-based singer-songwriter and producer Jessy Yasmeen presents her new album Salt & Soil at a release show in BIRD Rotterdam.

Salt & Soil is structured in two chapters. Salt explores searching - chasing things that bring no fulfilment, returning to empty sources, silence. The music is raw and direct, with influences from jazz, boom bap and soulful hip-hop. Soil forms the second part: here there is space for growth, healing and connection, with warm arrangements, organic percussion and influences from Latin, jazz and world music.

For this album show, Jessy brings an extended live band: drums, percussion, double bass, keyboards, guitar, violin, flute, trumpet and backing vocals. Live elements like congas, transverse flute and Chinese guzheng add extra depth to the sound. Her music moves between neo-soul, jazz, hip-hop and subtle Latin influences, fuelled by her Venezuelan, Surinamese, Chinese and Dutch roots.

Following her multi-million-streamed EP Leap of Faith, Jessy has received support from 3voor12, NPO Radio 2 and BBC Radio, performed from Rotterdam to London and Cuba, won the Rotterdam Music Award Export Prize and was selected for Popronde 2024.
