Several times a year, hundreds of candles illuminate the Portuguese Synagogue, where its distinctive acoustics give these concert evenings a unique character.

Argentinian pianist Gabriel Palatchi performs a blend of Latin jazz, tango, funk and world music.

About the venue: Portugese Synagoge Amsterdam

The Portugese Synagoge on Mr. Visserplein is one of the best-preserved seventeenth-century synagogues in the world. Completed in 1675 for Amsterdam's Sephardic Jewish community, it still stands on its original foundations. The interior is lit entirely by hundreds of candles - electric light was never installed. Besides religious services, the building functions as a museum and hosts concerts and cultural events.
