Saxophonist Susanne Alt released the groove-driven album Dark Horse this year, recorded during the same New York session that previously produced Royalty For Real. While that 2024 album marked a return to the acoustic jazz that made her name - and paid tribute to trumpet legend Roy Hargrove - Dark Horse takes a different path: the record captures music that emerged spontaneously the moment the tape started rolling.

The result is melodic and funky, performed by a full band. Jazzenzo described it this way: "Listening to Dark Horse is like attending a jam session where everyone is on the same page and you know within minutes: this cannot go wrong."
