Life can hit hard: grief, joy, the aftermath of a broken heart, a missed opportunity, a newborn child. In a world that imposes the illusion of control on us, there is a strong tendency to shut ourselves off from overwhelming feelings and thoughts - but that closure makes us hard and unyielding.
