Heerenhuis Chamber Concert - Trio del Puerto

Trio del Puerto brings together bandoneon, violin, and 8-string guitar to perform Argentine music - not just tangos and milongas from the city, but also rural folklore rooted in dances from different provinces and inspired by Argentina's diverse landscapes.

Bandoneon player Simone van der Weerden began on classical accordion before falling under tango's spell. She graduated cum laude from the Codarts Conservatorium in Rotterdam and also works on cross-over projects like NAOS, where jazz and tango meet. Guitarist Alvaro Rovira Ruiz and violinist Gustavo Cabrera both come from Buenos Aires and have lived in the Netherlands for many years, where they studied at the conservatorium and built their musical careers.

The name Trio del Puerto - 'Trio of the Harbour' - connects Rotterdam with Buenos Aires: Buenos Aires too is a port city, and it was there, among the immigrants who arrived at the docks, that tango was born.
