Tai Allen & Reg Wyns present ICONS 100: Miles & Coltrane - The Classics & The Samples

Tai Allen and Reg Wyns pay tribute to Miles Davis and John Coltrane on the occasion of their hundredth birthdays. At GROUNDS they present ICONS 100: Miles & Coltrane - The Classics & The Samples, a programme celebrating the greatest hits of their musical heroes.

Beyond Miles Davis and Coltrane, the focus also falls on Oscar Brown, Ray Brown and Lou Donaldson - all members of the so-called '100 Club'. Their work laid the foundation for artists such as Glasper, Pharcyde, Badu, Johnny Hartman, Kanye, A Tribe Called Quest, Amy Winehouse, Minnie Riperton and Les Nubians. Reg Wyns played as a member of Us3 on Cantaloop, which features a sample of Lou Donaldson. Tai Allen is often compared to Oscar Brown - singer, poet and political activist - and was a great admirer of Ray Brown's collaborations with Quincy Jones.

For this concert they assembled a fixed line-up, supplemented by guest artists Emanuel Ruffler (keyboards, played with Wallace Roney) and John Lander (bass, keyboards and vocals).
