Children's Book Week | Opening with Yvonne Jagtenberg & Theaterschool Almere
The Children's Book Week opens with celebrated Dutch author Yvonne Jagtenberg and musical support from Theaterschool Almere, followed by a book sale and signing session.
Yvonne Jagtenberg (Tilburg, 1967) is a Dutch picture-book maker, illustrator and screenwriter who both writes and draws her own books. She debuted in 1994 and built a wide body of work around beloved characters such as Balotje, Hondje and the wirwarwezels Arti and Bub. Her books have been published internationally - in the US, UK, France, Japan and Australia - and she has won the Gouden Penseel (Golden Brush) twice in a row, in 2019 for Mijn wonderlijke oom and in 2020 for Hup Herman!
De wirwarwezels op weg! by Jagtenberg was included in the longlist of the Boon Literature Prize 2026, the Flemish prize for the best Dutch-language books.
Hup Herman! was chosen by the organization of the Children's Book Week 2024 as the thematic title of that year.
In the Coda museum in Apeldoorn, the exhibition Het huis van Hopper was on display, based on Jagtenberg's work, from 3 to 15 May 2024.
Jagtenberg published the reading book De eencellige die het leven best wel ingewikkeld vond at publisher Querido.
Jagtenberg created the official Picture Book of the Children's Book Week 2023, Mijn huis is jouw huis, around the theme 'At my home'.
