About

Vicky Chow is a Hong Kong-Canadian pianist devoted to contemporary classical music, and has served as the pianist of the Bang on a Can All-Stars since 2009. She has toured more than forty countries, performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam, and the Royal Albert Hall, and has collaborated with composers including Steve Reich, Philip Glass, Julia Wolfe, and Michael Gordon. Her recordings have earned both a Grammy nomination and a JUNO nomination, and The New Yorker called her performance of Gordon's Sonatra 'a milestone of pianism'.

    Vicky Chow performs at the Bang on a Can LOUD Weekend 2026 (July 30-August 1) at MASS MoCA, North Adams, with new arrangements of Philip Glass' Glassworks and Terry Riley's A Rainbow in Curved Air.

    On October 11, 2025, Chow gave the West Coast premiere of Tristan Perich's Surface Image at The Nimoy (CAP UCLA), an evening-length work for solo piano and 40-channel 1-bit electronics.

    Chow's recording of the Super Villain Etudes by Canadian composer Vince Ho was nominated for a JUNO Award.

    In October 2022, Chow released Philip Glass: Piano Etudes Book 1 on the Cantaloupe label to mark Glass' 85th birthday.

    Her recording of Michael Gordon's Sonatra (Cantaloupe Music, 2018) was described by The New Yorker as 'a milestone of piano playing'.
