Tigran Hamasyan is an Armenian pianist and composer who weaves jazz together with Armenian folk music, progressive rock, and contemporary classical influences. Born in Gyumri in 1987, he won the Montreux Jazz Festival piano competition in 2003 and the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Piano Competition in 2006. Across thirteen studio albums on labels including ECM, Nonesuch, and Naïve, he has built a singular sound that moves freely between complex polyrhythms, Armenian modal scales, and electronic textures.
Hamasyan released his thirteenth studio album Manifeste in February 2026 via Naïve Records, recorded in Yerevan, Athens, Moscow and Los Angeles.
To promote Manifeste, Hamasyan toured North America with performances in New York, Seattle, Boston and Cincinnati.
In August 2024, The Bird of a Thousand Voices appeared, a double album based on the Armenian folk tale 'Hazaran Blbul'.
In April 2022, Hamasyan released StandArt, his first album with jazz standards, featuring guest appearances by Ambrose Akinmusire and Joshua Redman, among others.
