The Social Hub (known as The Student Hotel until 2022) is a European hospitality group that blends hybrid hotels with student housing, coworking spaces and public event areas. Founded in Amsterdam in 2012 by Charlie MacGregor, the company now runs 21 locations across Europe, including several in the Netherlands. Its Maastricht hub occupies the former Sphinx ceramics factory in the Sphinxkwartier, doubling as a hotel, student residence and cultural venue for workshops, coworking days and club nights.
The Social Hub's establishment in Glasgow generated almost 10 million British pounds in social value in the first year, according to its own impact measurement.
The company announced plans for a second location in the United Kingdom, with a new urban renewal project in Edinburgh.
Around Black Friday, The Social Hub temporarily transformed its European hotels into rest areas where people could disconnect instead of shopping online.
In Rome, the company opened a new location for 114 million euros in the San Lorenzo district, in a former railway building from the nineteen-twenties.
The Social Hub made its first entry into Portugal with a 60 million euro location in the Bonjardim district of Porto, the first one with long-term residential apartments.
