The Gathering - Mandylion & Nighttime Birds Live
The Gathering plays Amsterdam on 16 January 2027, performing their albums Mandylion and Nighttime Birds in full.
The Gathering are a Dutch rock band from Oss, founded in 1989 by brothers Hans and René Rutten. Starting out as a doom metal act, they evolved into one of the most influential names in atmospheric rock, largely through the voice of singer Anneke van Giersbergen. Albums like Mandylion (1995) and Nighttime Birds (1997) remain career landmarks - Mandylion was also the band's first record to chart in the Netherlands. After a hiatus from 2014 to 2018, the band returned to activity, and in 2025 the classic Mandylion line-up reunited for five sold-out shows marking the album's 30th anniversary.
The Gathering announces a closing show at AFAS Live in Amsterdam on January 16, 2027, as the final performance with Anneke van Giersbergen in the Mandylion lineup.
The band confirms that the reunited Mandylion lineup will play approximately 30 shows in Europe, North America and South America in 2026, with no plans for afterwards.
Singer Silje Wergeland leaves The Gathering after 16 years to, as she states herself, 'pursue new paths'.
The five sold-out Mandylion anniversary shows at Doornroosje in Nijmegen (August 27-31, 2025) with the reunited classic lineup including Anneke van Giersbergen become a great success.
