Skating Polly
American indie-rock band Skating Polly performs at Effenaar.
Skating Polly is an American alternative rock band formed in Oklahoma City in 2009 by step-siblings Kelli Mayo and Peyton Bighorse, who were nine and fourteen at the time. Kelli's brother Kurtis Mayo joined on drums in 2017, completing the trio now based in Tacoma, Washington. Known for a raw blend of riot grrrl, grunge and indie pop they call 'ugly-pop', the band earned early backing from punk figures like Exene Cervenka and members of the Flaming Lips. Their sixth record, the double album 'Chaos County Line' (2023), produced by Brad Wood, is widely regarded as their most ambitious release.
Skating Polly was announced as an act at the Tropical Heatwave Festival 2025 in Tampa, Florida.
The band played a European tour with shows in, among others, Montreuil (France), Siegen (Germany) and multiple British cities.
Skating Polly toured through Europe as a support act for Kate Nash's '9 Sad Symphonies Tour', with shows in, among others, London, Dresden and Hannover.
The single 'Rabbit Food' from 'Chaos County Line' was highlighted again in 2024 as the band's most recent single.
