Roy Khan (born Roy Sætre Khantatat, 12 March 1970 in Elverum, Norway) is a Norwegian singer who trained in opera before rising to prominence as frontman of progressive metal band Conception and, from 1997 to 2011, as lead vocalist of American power metal band Kamelot. His tenure with Kamelot produced landmark albums including The Black Halo (2005) and the live record One Cold Winter's Night (2006), both widely regarded as high-water marks of symphonic metal. After stepping away from music, he rejoined Conception in 2018 and has since expanded his profile through guest appearances and a forthcoming debut solo album.
Roy Khan and Tore Østby of Conception announced three acoustic shows in Norway (Moss, Lillehammer and Trondheim) in August 2026, together with cellist Kjell Magne Robak.
Khan announced on 27 November 2026 at the Rockefeller Music Hall in Oslo to perform the complete live album One Cold Winter's Night on the occasion of the 20th anniversary.
Khan is working on his first solo album, produced by Sascha Paeth, which he announced at the end of 2024; a title and release date have not yet been announced.
The Black Halo (20th Anniversary Edition) was released on 14 March 2025 via Napalm Records in multiple special formats, including a limited wooden box set with vinyl.
Khan was heard as a guest artist on 'Everybody's Here Until the End', a track on Here Be Dragons, the tenth album of Avantasia, released on 28 February 2025.
