Richard Janssen (born 1961 in Manchester) is a Dutch singer, guitarist and songwriter, best known as the founder and frontman of Amsterdam rock band Fatal Flowers. Their 1986 debut Younger Days made them a leading force in the so-called Amsterdam guitar school - a scene built on melodic guitar rock with strong 1960s influences. The band won a Zilveren Harp and two Edison awards, played Pinkpop and appeared on the legendary German TV show Rockpalast. After Fatal Flowers disbanded in 1990, Janssen went on to form Shine and Rex, and spent years working in theatre as a sound and set designer.
Fatal Flowers performed on 12 July 2026 at Bospop in Weert - their first festival performance in the new reunion cycle.
On 5 June 2026 the band performed at the Zuiderparktheater in Den Haag as part of the Zuiderpark Live series.
Fatal Flowers were confirmed in January 2026 for Zuiderpark Live in Den Haag, together with among others 10cc and Wolfmother.
In December 2025 Bospop announced as the first festival a performance by Fatal Flowers for the summer of 2026, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Younger Days.
On 23 May 2025 the compilation Live on 2 Meter Sessions was released, with recordings of Janssen with Fatal Flowers, Shine and Rex from the period 1987-1999.
