Rembrandt Quartet
Pianist Rembrandt Frerichs and three young musicians deliver an interactive jazz evening centred on ensemble playing and musical joy.
Rembrandt Frerichs (Rotterdam, 1977) is a Dutch jazz pianist and composer who graduated with honours from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague. His music draws on jazz, European classical traditions and Middle Eastern music - a passion he developed during two years living in Egypt. As a composer he has received commissions from Holland Baroque, Amsterdam Sinfonietta and the Nederlands Kamerorkest, and his Rembrandt Frerichs Trio is widely regarded as one of the most versatile jazz trios in the Netherlands.
The Rembrandt Frerichs Trio released the album 'The Blue Hour Sessions' on June 6, 2025 via Just Listen Records, with eleven tracks.
Frerichs received the green light for a new orchestral composition commission in which he will be both composer and soloist in 2026 and 2028; which orchestra is involved has not yet been announced.
Kayhan Kalhor and the Rembrandt Frerichs Trio performed on February 8, 2026 at the Meervaart in Amsterdam, followed by a performance at the Sons d'Hiver Festival in Paris.
The album 'Intizar' by the Rembrandt Trio with Mohamed Motamedi was named by the NRC as one of the best albums of 2023.
On September 8, 2024, the world premiere of a composition written by Frerichs for the New European Ensemble was broadcast on Dutch television (VPRO), recorded during the Day of the Composer.
