Piano and String Quartet is a chamber work by American avant-garde composer Morton Feldman (1926-1987), composed in 1985 and among his final major completed pieces. Written for the Kronos Quartet and pianist Aki Takahashi - who gave the world premiere on November 2, 1985 in Los Angeles - it is widely regarded as the crowning achievement of Feldman's late style. A central figure of the experimental New York School alongside John Cage and Earle Brown, Feldman built a body of work defined by extreme quietness, floating rhythms, and, in his later years, exceptional duration.
Piano and String Quartet was performed in April 2026 by pianist Vicky Chow and the Mivos Quartet at Roulette, New York, as part of the commemorations surrounding Feldman's hundredth birthday.
