Nathan Bowles is an American multi-instrumentalist based in Durham, North Carolina, whose music moves between Appalachian old-time traditions and minimalist drone. He considers himself primarily a percussionist, but his clawhammer banjo and piano are equally central to his sound. Alongside his solo work he plays in the Black Twig Pickers and the long-running drone outfit Pelt, and has collaborated with Steve Gunn, Jake Xerxes Fussell and others. His records have appeared on Paradise of Bachelors and Drag City, drawing praise from Pitchfork, NPR Music and The Wire.
