Mivos Quartet is a New York-based string quartet founded in 2008, dedicated entirely to contemporary classical music. Its members - violinists Olivia De Prato and Maya Bennardo, violist Victor Lowrie Tafoya, and cellist Nathan Watts - collaborate closely with living composers and regularly give world premieres. The quartet received the 2019 Dwight and Ursula Mamlok Prize for Interpreters of Contemporary Music and the Interpretation Prize at the Darmstadt Summer Courses. Their 2023 Deutsche Grammophon album collecting all three Steve Reich string quartets, made in direct collaboration with the composer, brought them wide international attention.
Mivos Quartet performed on 25 June 2026 at Reaktor Wien on the occasion of the cd-release of May Our Centers Hold, with works by Akinmusire, Catranis, Lewis and Mumford.
On 29 May 2026 the quartet performed the complete string quartets of Steve Reich in the Conrad Prebys Concert Hall of UC San Diego, with new pre-recorded quartet parts.
Mivos Quartet made its long-awaited debut in the 'Nouvelles Aventures' cycle of the Wiener Konzerthaus, with a program of six female composers including a world premiere by Sofia Jernberg.
On 30 October 2025 Mivos Quartet released the album May Our Centers Hold via Sideband Records, with four recently created world premieres by George Lewis, Michaela Catranis, Jeffrey Mumford and Ambrose Akinmusire.
The music platform I Care If You Listen praised May Our Centers Hold as an album in which the quartet performs four world premieres with conviction and refinement.
