Matthew and the Atlas is the project of British singer-songwriter Matt Hegarty, originally from Aldershot, Hampshire. Emerging from the West London folk scene in the late 2000s, he has built a devoted cult following across Europe and the US through albums that move between acoustic folk, electronics and brooding alt-rock. His fifth album Many Times (2024), recorded live to tape at Rockfield Studios in Wales, is widely considered his most stripped-back and intimate release to date.
Matthew and the Atlas performed on 25 March 2025 in Amsterdam as part of a European tour, together with Bear's Den.
The fifth studio album Many Times was released on 31 May 2024 via Communion Records, recorded live on tape at Rockfield Studios in Wales.
Many Times was described as the most effortless and direct work of Matthew and the Atlas in a decade.
The album This Place We Live was released in 2023, after which Hegarty returned to the studio almost immediately for the recordings of Many Times.
