Maria de Buenos Aires is a tango operita by Argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, with a libretto by Horacio Ferrer. Written in 1968, it follows Maria, a street girl from Buenos Aires whose life and death are steeped in tango. The work blends operatic structure with Piazzolla's distinctive nuevo tango sound.
