Marathon is an Amsterdam post-punk trio of Kay Koopmans (vocals/guitar), Nina Lijzenga (bass) and Lennart van Hulst (drums), who met at secondary school and went on to sign with V2 Records after winning the 2022 Amsterdamse Popprijs. Their sound fuses shoegaze, post-punk and indie into a dense, emotionally charged wall of noise, drawing comparisons to The Sound and The Murder Capital. Debut album Fading Image arrived in April 2025 to widespread Dutch media praise, followed by a sold-out club tour and appearances at Lowlands and festivals across Europe.
Marathon closes 2025 as headliner in the Grote Zaal of Paradiso - their biggest own show to date.
The band performed at Lowlands and was nominated by 3voor12 for Album of the Year.
Debut album Fading Image was released on 11 April 2025 via V2 Records, followed by sold-out headline shows in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
After the album release, Marathon toured through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France and the United Kingdom.
EKKO announced a headline show by Marathon for April 2026, partly following a surprise performance at the benefit concert Out of Place.
