Wen er maar aan (Matinee)
A theatre production about an actress navigating menopause, career setbacks and self-reinvention, featuring Maike Meijers and an accomplished ensemble.
Maike Meijer (Nijmegen, 1967) is a Dutch actress, screenwriter and television producer, best known for the absurdist comedy series Toren C, which she wrote, co-produced and performed alongside Margôt Ros across seven acclaimed seasons. The series won the Lira Scenarioprijs and the Seoul International Drama Award, and was nominated for a Rose d'Or. In 2020 she made her debut as a novelist with Wen er maar aan, a tragicomic bestseller about the menopause; she adapted the book into a screenplay herself and stars in the film adaptation due in cinemas in autumn 2026.
Maike Meijer told in a candid interview with the Volkskrant that a malignant tumor of six centimeters on her left kidney was detected; the tumor turned out not to have metastasized and could be surgically removed.
The trailer for the film Wen er maar aan was released, as reported by FilmVandaag.nl on July 3, 2026.
The filming of the adaptation of Meijer's bestseller Wen er maar aan began, with Meijer alongside Hadewych Minis, Bas Hoeflaak and Beppie Melissen in the cast; the film is scheduled for autumn 2026.
The film rights to the novel Wen er maar aan were sold; Meijer rewrote the book herself into a screenplay and plays the lead role.
