The Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw (JOC) is a Dutch big band that grew out of the New Concert Big Band, founded in 1996 by pianist Henk Meutgeert together with Frans van Geest and Hans Dekker. In 1999 the ensemble took on the name of Amsterdam's Concertgebouw, the only concert hall in the world lending its name to both a classical orchestra and a jazz orchestra. The JOC ranks among Europe's top big bands, has won two Edison Awards and has performed with guest soloists such as Toots Thielemans, Roy Hargrove, Chick Corea and Jose James at venues and festivals from Tokyo to Cape Town.
