Insomnium is a Finnish melodic death metal band formed in Joensuu in 1997. Their music weaves crushing guitar work with melancholic melodies and a blend of harsh and clean vocals, with lyrics centred on darkness, loss, and nature. The 2016 concept album *Winter's Gate* - a single 40-minute track based on a short story by bassist Niilo Sevänen - became their first Finnish number one. Now in their fourth decade, the band remains one of the genre's most consistent forces in Europe.
Insomnium released the single 'Gleam in the Black' as the second preview of their tenth studio album *Netherworlds*, which will be released on October 16, 2026 via Century Media Records.
The band announced an extensive co-headliner tour through North America together with Amorphis, scheduled for November and December 2026.
Guitarist Tomy Laisto, who had been performing as a touring musician since 2024, was officially announced as a permanent band member on January 16, 2026.
Insomnium was announced as support act for Amorphis' EU/UK tour in 2027, together with Unto Others.
Bassist and vocalist Niilo Sevänen confirmed in March 2025 that the tenth studio album was in the making and planned for 2026.
