About

Horsegirl is an American indie rock band from Chicago, formed around 2019 by teenagers Penelope Lowenstein, Gigi Reece and Nora Cheng. Their 2022 debut 'Versions of Modern Performance' drew wide acclaim for its noise-pop and lo-fi guitar sound, with Sonic Youth members Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley guesting on the record. Their second album 'Phonetics On and On' (2025), produced by Cate Le Bon, marked a shift toward cleaner, more melodic songwriting and was named one of the best albums of the year by critics at The Guardian and the New York Times.
