Hatsune Miku is a virtual singing character developed by Japanese company Crypton Future Media and released in 2007 as part of the Vocaloid software platform. Her voice is based on that of voice actress Saki Fujita, and her entire catalogue consists of songs created by fans and independent producers around the world. She performs as a 3D projection backed by a live band, and has now completed over 120 concerts across 50 cities worldwide. With her iconic turquoise twintails, she has become one of the most recognisable pop figures of the twenty-first century.
