Happy Mondays are a rock band from Salford who were central to the Madchester scene of the late 1980s. Their 1990 album Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches - produced by Paul Oakenfold and Steve Osborne - reached number four on the UK Albums Chart and went platinum, with singles 'Step On' and 'Kinky Afro' both hitting the top five. Frontman Shaun Ryder and dancer Bez remain the band's enduring public faces. Co-founder and bassist Paul Ryder died in July 2022 at the age of 58.
London Records released on 21 August 2026 an extensive Super Deluxe Edition of Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches, remastered from the original Factory Records master tapes and available as a 5LP box set, 4CD, 2CD and various vinyl variants.
Happy Mondays announced on 15 September 2025 a 22-day UK and Ireland tour for spring 2026, to celebrate the 35th anniversary of Pills 'n' Thrills and Bellyaches.
Shaun Ryder confirmed in November 2024 to NME that the long-awaited biographical film about his life will not proceed for now, after the band withdrew from American financing.
Singer Rowetta left the band in December 2024 and was replaced by Firouzeh Berry as backing vocalist.
Co-founder and bassist Paul Ryder died on 15 July 2022 at the age of 58; bassist Mikey Shine replaced him in the band shortly after.
