About

The Gurdjieff Quartet is a Dutch ensemble performing music rooted in the melodies collected by Greek-Armenian mystic G.I. Gurdjieff on his travels through the Caucasus, Asia and Africa. Around 1920, Gurdjieff and composer Thomas de Hartmann transcribed hundreds of these spiritual songs and folk tunes into piano scores. The quartet, featuring Ibo Bakker on guitar and mandolin, reworks that material into new arrangements spanning Armenia, Syria and Paris.
