Femke Flietstra grew up as one of seventeen children in a strict religious community in the Netherlands. Her book *Uit de schaduw van het geloof* (Out of the Shadow of Faith) recounts how her life was shaped by obedience and doctrine, and how she eventually broke free. She now speaks publicly about her experiences with religious upbringing and personal liberation.
