DJ Jean, born Jan Engelaar on 7 May 1968 in Veenendaal, is one of the most prominent figures in Dutch dance music history. He won the Dutch mix-and-scratch championship in 1989, built his reputation as resident DJ at Amsterdam's legendary club iT, and broke through internationally in 1999 with 'The Launch' - a track that hit number one in the Dutch Top 40 and reached number two in the UK.
