Deep Purple are a British hard rock band formed in Hertford in 1968, widely regarded as one of the founding forces of hard rock and heavy metal. Classics such as "Smoke on the Water", "Highway Star" and "Child in Time" helped them sell more than 120 million albums worldwide. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Their current line-up - Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice, Don Airey and guitarist Simon McBride - continues to record and tour.
