De Hûnekop is a West Frisian-language rock band founded in 2009 by singer-songwriter Emiel Stoffers, whose lyrics draw on his years working in shipbuilding. Alongside drummer Bart Scheffers, bassist Rik Alsma and guitarist Jeroen Seinstra, the band blends country, punk and rockabilly - always sung in Frisian, always with a sharp sense of humour. Their catalogue spans seven studio albums, a theatre tour and a self-made Frisian feature film (Stjer, 2021); the 2022 single 'Wy kam fram Fryslân' reached the NPO Radio 2 Top 2000 and topped the Fryske Top 100.
De Hûnekop released the new studio album 'Sa geef as kryt' on January 1, 2025 via Frisian Music, with twelve tracks.
The band performed on September 6, 2025 at the village festival in Cornjum and Jelsum, together with Oele Plop with whom they previously recorded 'Wy kam fram Fryslân'.
The Hûnekopfestival returns on Saturday, October 17, 2026 to Poppodium Iduna in Drachten, with both an afternoon and evening program.
De Hûnekop received the audience award of the Frisian Pop Awards in 2022 for the feature film Stjer.
The single 'Wy kam fram Fryslân' (with Oele Plop) was nominated for best song and best music video at the Frisian Pop Awards 2023.
