Cavolo Nero is a six-piece psychedelic groove band from Utrecht, formed by graduates of the Herman Brood Academie. They blend funk, disco and afrobeat with psychedelic and indie touches, drawing on acts like Nu Genea, Khruangbin and Jungle By Night. After debuting with a self-titled EP in 2022 and touring extensively through Popronde and major Dutch festivals, they released their debut album Mountain Disco in October 2025.
Cavolo Nero released their debut album Mountain Disco on October 24, 2025, a twelve-track record that came out on vinyl under their own label.
The band went on the Mountain Disco Album Release Tour at Dutch venues, including Doornroosje in Nijmegen on December 17, 2025.
In July 2024, the EP Nightshade was released, produced by Simon Akkermans, with songs such as 'Voulez Vous' and 'Gobi Desert'.
Cavolo Nero performed at Noorderslag in early 2023 and played at more than thirty festivals that summer, including Down The Rabbit Hole and Into The Great Wide Open.
The band made their debut in July 2022 with a self-titled six-track EP and participated in Popronde that same year, playing more than fifty shows.
