CATS is a sung-through musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on T.S. Eliot's poetry collection Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats. It premiered in London's West End in 1981 and ran for 21 years and 8,949 performances, followed by an 18-year Broadway run of 7,485 performances - records in both theatre districts at the time. Winner of the Olivier Award and seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, the show has grossed over $3.5 billion worldwide and been staged in more than 50 countries across 20-plus languages.
