Carmen is an opera by French composer Georges Bizet, first performed in Paris in 1875. It follows the fiercely independent Carmen and the soldier Don José, whose obsession with her leads to tragedy. Arias like "L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" have made it one of the most performed operas in the world.
