Alexander Skarsgård (Stockholm, 1976) is a Swedish actor who broke through internationally as vampire Eric Northman in HBO's True Blood (2008-2014) and later won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for playing the abusive Perry Wright in Big Little Lies (2017). He has since built a wide-ranging career spanning Succession, The Northman and the Apple TV+ series Murderbot (2025), on which he also served as executive producer. He is the eldest son of actor Stellan Skarsgård.
Skarsgård appeared in 2026 in the romantic fantasy film Wicker (with Olivia Colman and Peter Dinklage), which premiered in January 2026 at the Sundance Film Festival.
Skarsgård was seen in The Moment, a semi-fictional A24 film by Charli XCX, which was released in cinemas on 30 January 2026.
Skarsgård was announced as the lead actor in the gothic horror film The Wolf Will Tear Your Immaculate Hands, the English-language debut film of director Nathalie Álvarez Mesén, scheduled for May 2026.
The Apple TV+ series Murderbot, starring Skarsgård in the title role, was renewed for a second season in July 2025 after positive reviews.
Murderbot premiered on 16 May 2025 on Apple TV+ and received almost immediately exceptionally positive reviews, with a score of 98% on Rotten Tomatoes at launch.
