The Night Academy: Seminar: Session 2 - Inclusivity and Safety in Nightlife and DJ Culture

Session 2 of The Night Academy focuses on inclusivity and safety in nightlife and DJ culture. A safe dancefloor is no accident - it results from deliberate choices about door policy, awareness, line-ups, communication, and the culture an organization projects.

Guest speaker Bram van Heugten (Maastricht University) conducted research on nightlife and queer identity. His findings form the starting point for a conversation about how to move from good intentions to concrete policy - what does a safe night require from the organizer, staff, and audience? The session is also relevant for programmers, promoters, and venue staff with experience in the field.

The Night Academy is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about organizing dance events and building a sustainable career in nightlife culture. The initiative was named 'Best Initiative' during the Limburgse Popprijzen in December 2025. The full program consists of eight sessions, held at Muziekgieterij and Nieuwe Nor.
