Reality Architect - Dwight Harold Marica

From 30 May to 18 October 2026, Museum Vlaardingen presents the exhibition Reality Architect by Dwight Harold Marica (1973). The artist, born in Vlaardingen, returns to his roots with this comprehensive retrospective. The work encompasses painting, spatial installations and experimental techniques.

The exhibition traces Marica's development from the delicate drawings of the String Dimensions series to monumental three-dimensional sculptures. He draws inspiration from physics - not to explain science, but to translate invisible forces and elementary particles into visual form. Colour and structure are his means of making energy visible.

The title Reality Architect refers to his working method: just as an architect builds layer by layer, Marica applies paint in countless thin layers. This slow art process demands absolute concentration and creates a depth that invites the viewer to pause. In his mandala reliefs, this comes together in a rhythm that is both dynamic and meditative.

Marica made his solo debut in 2002 with Draadloos at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. His work is held in collections including the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam and the VandenEnde Foundation. In 2006 he received the A. Roland Holst Prize. A supporting programme accompanies the exhibition.
